Vattenfall hired environmental consultancy APEM to carry out aerial surveys of the onshore cable route for the 1.8GW each Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farms, which will be located off the East Anglia coast.
APEM took more than 10,000 ultra-high resolution images of the cable corridor from an altitude of between 700 and 1200 metres using a twin-engine survey aircraft fitted with a Leica camera.
The consultancy used computers to create image mosaics and 3D digital height models of the 62km cable corridor.
“The 3D models accurately depict changes in ground elevation across the survey area,” APEM said.
