SgurrEnergy has added unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones to its existing wind turbine inspection service after obtaining permission for use from the Civil Aviation Authority.
The company said turbine operations and maintenance inspections could be carried out four times faster with drones than traditional rope access methods, as well as reduce the safety risk for personnel.
SgurrEnergy will use its own software to analyse the drone-captured inspection data and convert it into asset information for clients.
SgurrEnergy director of asset management Robbie Gibson said: “We’re delighted to be adding UAVs to our existing inspection service offering.
“We’re always striving to improve our client offering and by introducing an innovative software reporting system our clients can recognise dangerous trends and make better-informed asset management decisions.”
