Florida Power & Light (FPL) Company has announced the names and locations of eight solar farms totalling 596MW that it will build by March 2018.
Each plant will have capacity of 74.5MW and the overall investment is about $900m, the company said.
Construction is expected to start in the spring, with each site expected to employ about 200 people at peak times.
Four projects – Coral Farms in Putnam county, Horizon in Alachua and Putnam counties, Indian River in Indian River county and Wildflower in DeSoto county – are planned to be completed by the end of 2017.
The remaining four facilities – Barefoot Bay in Brevard county, Blue Cypress in Indian River county, Hammock in Hendry county and Loggerhead in St Lucie county – are scheduled to be operating by 1 March next year.
FPL president and chief executive Eric Silagy said: “On a per-megawatt basis, these eight new plants will be the lowest-cost solar ever built in Florida and some of the lowest-cost solar ever built in America.”
