Olympic Shipping has selected Kongsberg Maritime to install its new K-Walk integrated gangway on multi-purpose offshore vessel Orion for work on wind projects.
The contract also includes the integration of an advanced Kongsberg Information Management System and the existing K-Pos Dynamic Positioning system on board, which will be upgraded in the latter half of 2017.
The integrated system is designed to significantly increase efficiency and safety for walk-to-work duties on offshore wind projects, Kongsberg said.
This is accomplished through an innovative approach that includes in-depth mission planning as well as automated vessel maneuvering and gangway hook-up.
“Olympic Orion embodies the future that we envisioned with the launch of our Integration strategy last year and we are delighted to work with Olympic Shipping for our cutting-edge new K-Walk solution,” Kongsberg executive vice-president for sales and marketing Stene Førsund said.
“K-Walk provides Olympic Orion with total oversight of route planning and gangway hook-up operations.”
Olympic Subsea chief operating officer Bjørn Kvalsund added that he sees “potential to install this integrated gangway solution on board several of our existing vessels in order to provide W2W services into an expanding and interesting market segmen.”
