Ireland is to open a public consultation next month on its national energy and climate plans, which will help determine how the country meets the EU’s 2030 target of at least 27% of renewable energy.
Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment Minister of State Sean Kyne, who was speaking at the EirGrid annual conference in Dublin today, said the consultation would assist the government “further in the development of our national positions on the proposals”.
He added that the level of growth in the Irish economy combined with delivery of energy efficiency savings will determine the extent of measures and investment required to achieve the 2030 goal.
“We therefore should not underestimate the challenge of meeting the 2030 EU-level binding target,” Kyne said.
