German and Swedish transmission system operators 50Hertz and Svenska Kraftnät are to tender for a 700MW interconnector between the two countries in 2022
Both companies have mapped out a timetable for the 300km Hansa Power Bridge, with the aim of obtaining licenses for the project by the end of 2021.
The partners expect the €600m HVDC interconnector is scheduled to be fully operational in 2025 or 2026.
The link will connect two converter stations in Gustrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in Hurva in southern Sweden.
Svenska Kraftnät and 50Hertz will each bear the investment costs in their respective countries and provide equal shares for the cable to be buried in the Baltic Sea.
