Scottish Power Energy Networks and technology company 3M have installed and energised an electricity conductor in Scotland, doubling available capacity and helping to bring electricity to the grid from an offshore wind farm.
The 275kV 3M conductor, which is known as Aluminium Conductor Composite Reinforced, has increased capacity without the need to make major changes to the existing electricity network between Coylton and Mark Hill in South Ayrshire, the companies said.
The project was completed in just three months, five months ahead of schedule.
It is the first new power conductor installed in Scotland for almost 30 years, the companies added.
