UK Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to unveil the government’s hotly anticipated industrial strategy on Monday.
The Modern Industrial Strategy will set out the “foundations to build a more prosperous and more equal Britain” and signal a more interventionist agenda.
Offshore wind and energy storage are expected to feature in the new strategy.
In recent months, BEIS Secretary Greg Clark has frequently namechecked the two sectors as offering potential for growth through joining up energy policy, climate change policy and industrial policy.
Hopes for an imminent fully fleshed out masterplan are however set to be dashed.
The document published next week will be a green paper, described last month by Clark in Parliament as a “discussion paper that proposes various policies”.
Following publication, the government will engage in a lengthy period of consultation to gauge support for its proposals.
Later this year, the government will publish “something like a White Paper”, added Clark.
