British Prime Minister Theresa May should embrace the “huge industrial opportunity” for trade and growth offered by the low-carbon transition, according to the Renewable Energy Association.
The lobby group is urging May to support the low carbon industry following today’s keynote speech from the PM on the UK exiting the European Union.
REA chief executive Nina Skorupska said: “The UK has the opportunity to lead the way in areas such as energy storage, electric vehicles and bioenergy, all of which are sectors in which we have real expertise and have the potential to export globally.
“The industry needs clarity on the long-term vision and government ambition in these areas.”
Policy certainty on Brexit and its implications are a “top priority” for renewables companies, Skorupska added.
May referenced “clean energy” briefly in her Brexit speech today and also pledged to build a stronger economy by developing a new modern industrial strategy.
In response to the speech, RenewableUK said May had “made clear her support for clean energy”.
Executive director Emma Pinchbeck said: “The renewable energy market is an international one worth hundreds of billions of dollars a year.”
