New York State governor Andrew Cuomo has announced $360m in funding to support onshore renewable energy projects with a combined 260MW.
The 11 facilities, requiring almost $1bn in investment, comprise seven hydro plants, two wind farms, one solar park and a fuel cell project.
They include Invenergy’s 105.8MW Number Three wind farm in Lewis County and NextEra’s 101.2MW Eight Point wind scheme in Steuben County.
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will pay an average $24.24 per megawatt hour to the new facilities over 20 years.
Total support was increased from $150m to $360m due to the large amount of interest sparked by the latest solicitation, Cuomo said.
The governor is also throwing his weight behind offshore wind with calls to approve the 90MW South Fork project and a pledge to develop 2.4GW by 2030.
New York State has a target to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by then.
