Iberdrola has completed the excavation of a diversion tunnel to feed the 118MW Daivões hydro power station, which is part of the Tâmega project in Portugal.
The tunnel is approximately 400 metres in length and took less than 100 days to excavate and shore up, the company said.
Iberdrola will now start work on the inner concrete reinforcement lining and the cofferdams.
Daivões will consist of two turbines with combined power of 114MW and a 4MW machine, Iberdrola said.
It added that the €1.5bn Tâmega complex will comprise three dams – Gouvães, Tâmega and Daivões – and, with all the associated electricity generating facilities, have installed capacity of 1158MW.
