The environmental regulator for Wales has refused RWE Innogy UK a permit to build and operate a new hydropower scheme in the Conwy Valley.
The company had applied for a permit to abstract water from the River Conwy to supply the new hydro scheme near Betws y Coed.
However, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) concluded that the proposal would be harmful to the environment in the area.
NRW said the company wanted to abstract too much water at times from the river and “there was not enough evidence about the movement of sediment and its impact” on the ecology.
