Construction will kick off early next year of a maritime research centre in the Belgian port of Ostend.
The test centre at Plassendale 1 will house a 30m long by 30m wide wave pool and 174m long by 20m wide towing tank.
The wave pool will facilitate the testing of scale models of wave and tidal devices and wind turbines, as well as coastal defense and other offshore structures.
“This will both strengthen the position of marine scientific research in Flanders and boost the development of the port because the research centre offers further opportunities to large and small businesses to develop in this matter,” said a Port of Ostend spokeswoman.
