Damen Shipyards Galati has completed the bow section of the Bibby Wavemaster 1 service operations vessel (SOV), which will be deployed in the North Sea to support offshore wind construction and operation and maintenance.
The vessel, which has been ordered by Bibby Marine Services, is being built in two sections, with the aft currently being finished off, Damen said.
The bow has been moved from a covered shed to the quay and will be joined by the aft section in the coming weeks, the company said.
The completed vessel will be launched from the quay in late March, it added.
Delivery is expected to take place in mid-August 2017.
The Bibby Wavemaster 1 is a 90-metre SOV, built on a DP-2 (dynamic positioning) platform, with a motion compensated access system and comfort class 2 standard accommodation for 60 individuals.
Equipment will be transferred with a heave compensated “knuckle boom” crane, Damen said.
