Welsh wave developer Marine Power Systems has unveiled its under-construction quarter-scale WaveSub device to be installed off Milford Haven next year.
The Swansea company invited the Welsh government’s leader of the house Jane Hutt to visit fabrication contractor Ledwood Mechanical Engineering in Pembroke Dock.
Fabrication of the device, which is 15 metres long, 10 metres wide and 2.5 metres tall, kicked off in the summer. A full-scale, 1.5MW device will be 40 metres.
Initial tow testing of the prototype will take place at Milford Haven before moving to full testing at Cornwall’s FabTest.
Hutt said: “Substantial EU and Welsh government funding has been invested in WaveSub, so I’m delighted this pioneering project has taken another significant step forward.
“It’s great to see that investment benefiting both developers and supply chain businesses, paving the way for a thriving marine energy sector in Wales.”
