The Netherlands is planning to phase out subsidies for offshore wind by 2026, according to a government document.
The ‘Energy Agenda’ issued by the ministry of economic affairs this week sets out plans for how the country will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to near zero by 2050.
It said that the continued roll out of offshore wind between 2023 and 2030 is guaranteed, with the aim of adding about 1GW per year in areas already designated for deployment by the government.
However, continued cost reductions, innovation and competition will mean that no subsidies will be needed by the 2026 tender round, the document said.
The Netherlands already aims to have 4.5GW of offshore wind capacity installed by 2023.
