Siemens has started work to enhance storage infrastructure for wind turbine hub and nacelle components at its factory in Hutchinson in Kansas
The improvements include the creation of a 48,310 square metre outdoor gravel storage area on land west of the existing factory.
A&A Builders of Hutchinson has the contract for the project and Zenor Electric of Hutchinson will complete the electrical work.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of February.
Siemens also plans to upgrade equipment to move components.
The 27,870-square-metre factory produces nacelles and hubs and currently has about 360 employees.
Plant manager Danilo Bezerra said: “This project will add critical storage space and help ensure finished goods are properly maintained before shipping.”
