Canadian developer Minas Energy proposes to double the 16.4MW Ellershouse wind farm in Nova Scotia.
Minas is managing development and construction for the towns of Berwick, Antigonish and Mahone Bay, which created the Atlantic province’s first independent energy utility.
The Alternative Resource Energy Authority owns the Ellershouse scheme, located in West Hants.
The 16.4MW expansion will consist of seven Enercon E-92 2.35MW turbines with a 98-meter hub height, according to a regulatory filing.
The project is located on land owned by Atlantic Star Forestry south of the existing wind farm.
Comments may be submitted through 17 December on an environmental assessment application, prepared by Strum Consulting. A decision is expected in January 2017.
If the project wins approval from Nova Scotia regulators, Minas expects to start construction in mid-2017. Commercial operation is slated to begin in 2018.
