NextEra Canada has agreed to buy a 291MW wind project in Alberta from local outfit Heritage Wind Farm Development.
Provincial regulators are reviewing a request to transfer ownership. The anticipated closing date is 30 November.
Heritage received clearance in 2011 for the 97-turbine proposal near Pincher Creek. In 2014, the Alberta Utilities Commission approved an extension to December 2017 to complete construction.
There has been very little wind project construction in recent years in Alberta because of low electricity prices and a lack of provincial support.
However, Alberta this year announced plans to install 5GW of wind, hydro and solar energy capacity to meet a new renewable energy target of 30% by 2030.
The province is expected to start the process of purchasing new wind power before the end of the year.
