KTA Kunststofftechnologie Aurich has completed the first set of outer rotor blades for Enercon’s new WEC E-141 EP4 wind turbine.
The prototype 4.2MW E-141 EP4 unit, which is designed for low wind speed areas, is currently under construction in central Germany, Enercon said.
The blades are scheduled to be installed in mid-November, with commissioning of the turbine planned before the end of the year, EP4 programme manager Arno Hildebrand said.
Enercon said the blades have a diameter of 141 metres, making them the longest in the onshore market.
The outer blades were manufactured by KTA, while the inner blades were made at Enercon’s winding centre at Haren/Emsland.
Serial production of the blades will start next year, Enercon said.It said at sites where wind speeds average 6.5 metres per second the turbine will generate yields of more than 13m kWh.
Enercon plans to construct about 80 E-141 EP4 machines next year.
