Sempra US Gas & Power has restarted seven of the eight Siemens 3MW-101 direct drive turbines at the 21MW Auwahi wind farm in Hawaii, after the major failure of one unit resulted in a temporary shutdown.
A spokeswoman for Sempra told reNEWS that and initial investigation had revealed problems with the fasteners connecting the nacelle to the tower.
The blades, hub and nacelle separated from the tower and fell to the ground on 2 October last month.
The spokeswoman said the fasteners have been replaced on the remaining seven towers and the turbines returned to service over time.
The seven machines have been operational and delivering power again to Maui Electric Company since 27 October, she said.
Sempra continues to conduct a root cause investigation of the incident, the spokeswoman added.
