ABO Wind is developing an eight-turbine wind farm at Illevaara in the Kainuu region of Finland.
The project near the Russian borders is 2km from the nearest building and within 4km there are fewer than a dozen inhabited houses.
Challenges include a nesting osprey and reindeer herds. For the former, two artificial nests are being designed to lure the bird into an area with a sufficient distance to the wind farm.
“While developing a wind farm we consider both the needs of humans and the requirements of nature,” said ABO Wind project manager Karl Schultheis.
