Highland Council has called on offshore wind projects such as SSE’s 588MW Beatrice to provide community benefit to local residents.
Members supported a motion at today’s meeting in Inverness to “ask the Scottish government to help Highland and other local authorities to set a recommended level of community benefit” for the sector.
The council also pointed to the need to give local government control of the “anticipated rental income” for the Crown Estate of £56m from Beatrice.
The motion said: “We ask for rapid progress to be made to agree a position on the devolution of Crown Estate incomes to Scotland and (then) to local authority level.”
SSE is building Beatrice in the Moray Firth off Caithness.
