Xcel Energy plans to build four wind farms in Minnesota and North Dakota totalling 750MW.
The projects in Minnesota are the 200MW Freeborn scheme in Freeborn county, which will be developed by Invenergy, and the Blazing Star 1&2 wind farms – both 200MW – to be developed by Geronimo Energy in Lincoln county.
In North Dakota, NextEra Energy Resources will develop the 150MW Foxtail wind farm in Dickey county, Xcel said.
It added that, if approved by regulators, construction will start upon completion of the permitting process, which is expected by mid-2017.
The projects are scheduled to be in service by 2020, Xcel said.
Xcel Energy–Minnesota president Chris Clark said: “The new wind portfolio delivers on our plan to more than double our renewable energy sources over the next 15 years, and reduces carbon emissions by 60% from 2005 levels.”
