Dong Energy has installed its 1000th offshore wind turbine, the first company globally to reach the milestone.
The 1000th turbine was commissioned at the 252MW Gode Wind 2 project in the German North Sea, which features 6MW Siemens machines.
The first offshore wind turbine to be in installed with a capacity of 0.45MW was at the Vindeby project in 1991, Dong said.
The company added that between 2016 and 2020 it is set to build more offshore wind capacity than in the preceding 25 years.
Dong senior vice president responsible for the construction of offshore wind farms Anders Lindberg said: “With 1000 offshore wind turbines, we have a unique level of experience of constructing and operating ‘power plants’ at sea, and this is crucial to ensuring that we can continue to reduce the costs of green electricity from offshore wind.”
