Invenergy is planning to develop a 700MW renewable energy project, known as Clean Energy Link, to deliver power to the Long Island region of New York.
The project will consist of four wind farms and two solar facilities within the 12-state PJM regional power market, the company said.
All the electricity generated by Clean Energy Link will be delivered from PJM via a new HVDC transmission line to a net-zero converter station on Long Island.
Invenergy said the wind and solar projects will be built across 55,000 acres in rural areas in multiple states.
“This innovative portfolio approach provides economies of scale and unprecedented diversification in technology and geography,” it said.
Clean Energy Link is being developed in response to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s call for 50% of the state’s energy to come from renewables by 2030.
Invenergy founder and chief executive Michael Polsky said: “Pairing renewable energy with new dedicated transmission will bring low cost wind and solar energy to where it is needed in densely populated areas, such as Long Island and New England.”
