Ulstein Design & Solutions and SeaOwls are partnering to develop the next generation of self-propelled heavy lift jack-up vessels for the offshore wind industry.
A complete new design, known as Soul, is being developed by the two companies, rather than a scaled-up version of a conventional heavy lift jack-up vessel, they said.
Soul will be “scalable and suitable for various crane sizes, variable loads [and] deck lay-outs”, the partners added.
SeaOwls founder and managing director Erik Snijders (pictured, right) said: “The design driver is to significantly increase the efficiency compared to existing units in the market, both in logistical lay-out as in pay load capacity.”
Ulstein Design & Solutions managing director Edwin van Leeuwen (pictured, left) said: “Together we have come up with a new layout including a number of alternative solutions that will significantly change and improve the installation of offshore wind turbines.”
