Granada Material Handling has won a contract to design, manufacture, deliver and commission 26 davit cranes for the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm off the Scottish coast.
The contract has been awarded by Burntisland Fabrications, which is supplying 26 foundation platforms to the wind farm.
One Python crane will be fitted to each of the 26 platforms and be delivered over an eight-month period, Granada said.
Each crane measures 4 metres in height, has a radius of 7.5 metres and weighs 2 tonnes, the Manchester company said.
It added that the maximum lifting capacity of 1.25 tonnes is needed to hoist the heavier serviceable components from supply vessels to the laydown area on the platforms.
Granada Material Handling director Mark Sidwell said: “We are currently working with designers, wind farm developers and turbine manufacturers to further enhance the product range to ensure the very latest developments in lifting technology are made available to the rapidly expanding and ever developing offshore renewable market.”
Granada has already been contracted by Smulders to supply 28 cranes and Bladt for 30 units for platforms the fabricators are manufacturing for Beatrice.
