Skellefteå Kraft and Vattenfall have teamed up to encourage data storage companies to set up centres in northern Sweden powered by renewable energy.
As part of the initiative, the joint venture intends to acquire The Node Pole, a company working to attract data centre operations to the Norrbotten region of Sweden.
Skellefteå Kraft chief executive Hans Kreisel said: “Northern Sweden … has access to stable, renewable electricity at competitive prices, but also strong local communities.”
The partners said a recent report commissioned by Business Sweden, showed that global demand for new data centres could lead to 27,000 jobs over the next 10 years.
