Swiss local utility Azienda Elettrica Ticinese (AET) has filed an application to build an 11.75MW wind farm on the San Gottardo mountain pass in southern Switzerland.
The company aims to install five 2.35MW turbines at a site more than 2130 metres above sea level.
The SFr32m San Gottardo project will be the first wind farm in the canton of Ticino, it said.
Construction is scheduled to start next spring, following no less than 10 years of development.
AET will own 70% of the project, with local utility Services industriels de Geneve holding 25% and the Comune of Airolo the remaining 5%.
