J Murphy & Sons has started work today on the onshore substation for Vattenfall’s 92.4MW Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland.
The first task is to prepare and secure the site at Blackdog, Aberdeenshire, including establishing temporary staff facilities and an access road for the onshore project team.
Construction of the actual substation will kick off later this autumn.
Local company Donside Safety is supplying personal protective equipment for all workers on the wind farm, which is also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC).
Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm project director Adam Ezzamel said: “The start of onshore works is a step forward in the EOWDC’s development and we aim to complete this part of the project with minimum disruption to the local community by being a considerate neighbour.”
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 11 V164-8.4MW turbines for the wind farm, which is expected to generate first power in 2018.
