US energy company Calpine has unveiled plans for a 125MW wind project in New York State.
Houston company Calpine has filed a proposed public involvement program for the Bluestone scheme, the first step in an application for a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need.
The proponent plans to erect up to 40 turbines on leased rural land in the towns of Windsor and Sanford in Broome County.
The Bluestone project will include a collection substation, an interconnect substation and a four-mile 115kV transmission line to NYSEG’s existing Afton to Stilesville transmission line in Sandford.
Calpine expects to hold at least two open house public meetings in late 2016 and early 2017.
The developer must wait at least 150 days before it can file a preliminary scoping statement.
The company is the US’s largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources.
In early 2015, Calpine launched a new wind energy development group to own and operate projects throughout the US.
