Voith is to modernise three hydro generators at Eskom’s Drakensberg pumped storage plant in South Africa.
The €11m deal involves manufacture, installation and commissioning of the three units during normal operations until mid-2018.
Voith Hydro Germany technical manager of the Drakensberg project Martin Althoff said: “These measures ensure a reduction of operating temperature and machine vibrations so that their lifetime can be extended significantly.
“After the modernisation, the generators will show at least 40 years of operation.”
