Banks Renewables has started work on access roads for the 88MW Kype Muir wind farm in South Lanarkshire in Scotland.
The company said it has begun widening and improvements to an 800-metre stretch of Lambhill Road, which will be a key access point for contractors over the course of the construction and life of the wind farm.
The road is being widened from a single-track to a 5.5-metre, two-lane thoroughfare and will include new passing places.
Banks said work started in August and will run until December.
Local contractors RJ MacLeod have been employed to undertake the road improvements, in line with Banks’ Connect2Renewables Charter – which commits to using local suppliers where possible.
Banks said on completion of the road upgrade work will start on construction of the wind farm, which will feature Senvion 3.4MW hardware and is expected to be fully commissioned in early 2019.
