Alabama Power has issued a request for proposals for renewable energy that will allow it to gauge potential opportunities.
The utlity said the RFP will allow it “to review market offerings . . . and determine whether there are viable projects that company may choose to pursue”.
“Renewable markets change a lot and this proposal gives us a chance to see what may be out there in the 2017 and 2018 time frame,” said director John Kelly.
Technologies being considered include solar, wind, geothermal, tidal or ocean current, low-impact hydro and biomass. Biogas and combined heat and power is also eligible.
Alabama Power is seeking “turnkey” proposals for facilities that the company would own, as well as energy purchase contracts with terms of 10 or 25 years.
Notice of intent to bid must be filed by 6pm local time on 14 October with completed bids to follow before close of play on 15 November.
