Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise would continue to provide its services despite a Holyrood review of enterprise and skills provision.
Speaking during First Minister’s Questions, Sturgeon said: “I can give the assurance to the member that we will make sure it is in a position to carry on with those functions and provide the excellent services it does to the Highlands of Scotland.”
This week’s announcement of the Holyrood review led to fears HIE could be merged with Scottish Enterprise, which serves the rest of the nation.
HIE administers Wave Energy Scotland and has played a large role in encouraging the wider renewables sector in the Highlands and Islands.
