Irish developer Mainstream and US giant GE have teamed up to build and operate large scale wind farms in Vietnam.
The partners said they would target both greenfield and partially developed sites and would work alongside local and international players.
Finance will come via a Mainstream/GE Energy Financial Services joint development agreement, building on the 1GW deal already agreed between the US company and the Vietnamese government in May.
Mainstream chief operating officer Andy Kinsella said: “Delivering low-cost renewable energy in high-growth markets such as Vietnam is Mainstream’s key strategic focus.”
Vietnam is targetting a massive increase in electricity generation including renewables by 2020.
