Vattenfall has confirmed that MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 11 V164-8.4MW turbines for the 92.4MW Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland.
The project, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, will test and demo next generation products and services that aim to drive down the cost of offshore wind.
The deal with MHI Vestas also includes a full scope service contract of up to 20 years to optimise power production. The tie-up was first reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
The blades for the project will be produced at the MHI Vestas blade factory on the Isle of Wight in the UK.
The project will also feature 66kV electrical infrastructure, including transformers and switchgears, to enable connection to the 66kV grid.
MHI Vestas chief executive Jens Tommerup said: “Larger and more powerful wind turbines such as the V164-8.0MW are a key driver of cost reduction.
“The turbine has an optimised rotor to generator ratio and the use of the 8.4MW power mode will maximise output and increase value for the customer.”
