Senvion has unveiled a new 3.6M140 turbine at the WindEnergy 2016 trade fair in Hamburg today.
The German company said the turbine has been developed for projects at sites with medium wind speeds.
Compared with the 3.2M122 unit, the 3.6M140 has up to 20% higher energy yield at wind speeds of 7.5 metres per second, it added.
Senvion said the new turbine’s ‘aeroacoustics’ have been optimised by equipping the blades with serrations for lower sound in all operating modes.
The single blade installation also allows for quick erection, with the lighter blades utilising RodPack technology, the company said.
The 3.6M140 is also designed to operate for 25 years compared with the 20 years for the 3.2M122, it added.
Senvion chief executive Jürgen Geissinger said: “The upgrade to medium wind speed sites will open additional sites where our customer can apply this top of the line technology product.
“The140 meter rotor diameter and the upgrade to 3.6MW will allow additional output at the same site.”
