Southern Power and Recurrent Energy’s 200MW Tranquillity solar plant has achieved commercial operation in California.
Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Energy, owns 51% of the project, while Recurrent, part of the Canadian Solar group, owns the remaining 49%.
Tranquillity created 456 peak construction jobs, with approximately 57% of workers hailing from within 50 miles of the project site, Recurrent said.
More than $5m was spent locally on materials and services to support construction activities, the company added
Signal Energy Constructors provided engineering, procurement and construction services for the project, which is located on 1900 acres of retired agricultural land in Fresno County.
Electricity and the associated renewable energy credits produced by Tranquillity will be sold under long-term power purchase agreements to offtakers including Southern California Edison.
