Innogy Renewables UK will use the Met Office’s upgraded VisualEyes system for weather forecasting to help personnel plan more cost-efficient maintenance schedules.
The system will allow Innogy Renewables UK to monitor both current and forecast weather conditions across 36 of its sites across the country, including onshore wind, hydro and one offshore wind farm.
It is accessible via a dedicated web portal and will be used both in Innogy’s wind control centre in Swindon, where it is displayed 24/7, and on-site, to help protect engineering staff from potentially hazardous weather such as lightning and wind gusts.
VisualEyes is accessible on smartphones and tablets, Innogy said.
Innogy Renewables UK wind control centre manager Adam Oxley said: “We have worked really closely with the Met Office throughout the development of the upgraded VisualEyes system.
“We look forward to continue working closely with the Met Office in the future.”
