The Civil Aviation Authority has given operational approval for Aveillant’s holographic radar mitigation technology installed at East Midlands Airport.
The Theia 16A radar was deployed last year to mitigate the radar impact of Severn Trent Water’s two-turbine Spondon wind farm located in the line of sight of the airport near Derby.
Cambridge outfit Aveillant said it has also completed the safety case for the Theia 16A radar.
Aveillant chief executive David Crisp said: “Given the modular nature of our radar systems, we expect this to give even further confidence to the growing group of airports we are in discussion with.”
“We are very proud of our unique achievements in mitigating wind farm clutter – a tricky technical challenge which has only been properly solved by Aveillant’s technology. “
A spokesman for Severn Trent Water said the Spondon wind farm, which was installed in 2013, is yet to be fully operational.
