Investment and development outfit InfraRed is to take control of Eon’s construction-ready 50MW Afton wind farm in southwest Scotland.
The new owner will build the 25-turbine project starting at the end of this year with full generation expected in the fourth quarter of 2017. Investment via the InfraRed Infrastructure Fund 3 will total £78m.
Lead contractors are Gamesa for 2MW turbines and Farrans on civil engineering. Both deals were reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
Power will be sold to Neas Energy. Advisors on the deal included Osborne Clarke, Harper Macleod, Everoze and Natural Power.
“InfraRed is pleased to add this investment opportunity to its portfolio and utilise its extensive experience in developing wind farms,” said the company.
“This investment opportunity arose at short notice and our experience in converting late stage development onshore wind farms and managing construction has allowed us to successfully complete the transaction within a matter of weeks with support from Eon,” added InfraRed.
