Mainstream Renewable Power has officially opened the 80MW Noupoort wind farm in South Africa’s Northern Cape region.
The wind farm comprises 35 Siemens 99-metre high turbines.
It is Mainstream’s fourth renewable energy project to reach commercial operation in South Africa and the first to successfully achieve operation as part of the third round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
Noupoort will generate around 304,800MWh of electricity a year, Mainstream said.
The company said it is currently building two more wind farms in the country near Loeriesfontein that are on track to start operating in December next year.
