Innogy Renewables UK has resubmitted a planning application for its £12m Conwy Falls hydroelectric plant in northern Wales.
The new submission includes fresh information on environmental enhancement plans, as well as improved proposals that take on board comments from a variety of stakeholders, the developer said.
The proposals include a low profile weir, abstracting a percentage of the above average river flow, a section of tunnel and buried pipeline, powerhouse, and an outfall to return the water to the river.
At all times a flow of water will be passed downstream to maintain the ecology of the river, it said.
“We believe that we have a robust application that could bring real benefit to the area,” Innogy hydro development manager Andrew Logie said. “Whilst the project would be barely noticeable to most visitors once operational, it would have a very positive and beneficial impact environmentally and economically.”
