Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has hired former Pelamis Wave Power employee Rob Ionides to look after the P2-002 device acquired following the developer’s demise in 2014.
Engineering technician Ionides will split his time between EMEC’s pier office at Lyness, where the Pelamis ‘sea snake’ device formerly owned by ScottishPower Renewables resides, and its Stromness headquarters.
EMEC spokeswoman Lisa Mackenzie said the test site is still exploring options to use the P2-002 as a test rig.
There has also been worldwide interest related to Pelamis IP, she added.
The test centre has also recruited Catrin Sutherland to its commercial team.
Sutherland will support the implementation of EMEC’s marketing strategy, developing work packages for delivery to external projects, and market research activities.
