The Innu Nation has teamed up with Boralex to develop, build and operate the 200MW Apuiat wind farm in Quebec.
Boralex will partner with Renewable Energy Systems Canada, which has been developing the site in Port-Cartier in the Côte-Nord region, Boralex spokesperson Julie Cusson told reNEWS.
RES will assist with development, engineering and construction.
The Innu Nation, Boralex and RES plan to begin public consultations in mid-October. The partners are also negotiating a power purchase agreement with provincial utility Hydro-Québec.
The Innu Nation will control a 50% share of the project, while the three partners are still negotiating their ownership stakes based on three possible scenarios, said Cusson.
Commissioning of a first phase is expected in 2018 with the final turbines starting operation in 2019.
“Our goal is to be in service with the full 200MW in 2019,” said Cusson.
Boralex expects to erect up to 85 turbines at the site, which is located on public land, said Cusson.
The Apuiat project will complete Quebec’s 4000MW goal of wind energy under the province’s 2006–20015 strategic plan.
