JDR has upgraded its subsea cable-lay offering by unveiling a new horizontal lay-up machine (HLM) it says will increase manufacturing capacity for renewables clients.
The British cable supplier said the HLM, launched at its Hartepool facility, will also add to its oil and gas offering, with a particular focus on steel tubing and power umbilicals.
The new kit will nearly double JDR’s production capacity, chief executive David Currie said.
“The HLM will enable us to enhance our capabilities to manufacture steel, thermoplastic and hybrid umbilicals for complex, future subsea projects,” he said.
JDR said around 70% of global subsea developments require steel tube umbilicals.
The company is a major supplier of offshore wind farm array cables, which connect turbines to project substations.
