US federal regulators have approved Algonquin Power’s purchase of the remaining 50% interest in the 200MW Odell wind farm in Minnesota. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
The Canada-based developer bought a 50% stake in the Odell scheme in 2014 from Geronimo Energy.
The $330m project started commercial operation in July, powered by 100 Vestas V110 2MW turbines. Odell is located on about 23,000 acres of leased land in Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin and Watonwan counties.
Utility Xcel Energy has a 20-year power purchase agreement to buy the output.
Algonquin anticipates Odell will generate 831.8 gigawatt hours of energy per year, 2.1% higher than initial estimates.
