US renewable energy generation has surpassed levels in previous years in every month from January to June this year, according to the International Energy Association.
The increase can partly be attributed to an easing of drought conditions on the US west coast, which has seen hydro generation levels increase back towards historical levels.
But non-hydro forms of green energy, such as wind, solar and geothermal, have also collectively increased their production year-on-year in each month since February, the IEA said.
“Capital costs for solar and wind have declined considerably in recent years,” the IEA said, adding new projects had also been inspired by favorable policies initiatives such as tax credits.
